MY JERUSALEM

2025

130 x 160 x 180
Gauze, wooden sticks, gesso,
cardboard, acrylic paint, cotton,
origami made by Tibetan children

Prompt: Shelter.
At the entrance of my shelter, a pair of towering structures rise,
as if mountains that stepped out of traditional Chinese paintings.
Those structures echo the part of me that is deeply connected to
the traditional culture and reflect my affection for mountains and
nature. Entering the mountainous gate, I begin to portray my
journey of thoughts. The slim passage draws all my consciousness
together, representing my first phase of thinking—organized and
optimized. From there, I embark on a journey, sitting on top of the
blue ocean and origami waves. The streamlined path of thought
gradually dissolves, and thoughts merge together, as if the second
phase of thinking begins. But shortly, the elements are greeted
with clouds drifting high above the ocean, transforming them into
another space where I truly "land" and find peace. Finally, reaching
the interior of this shelter, the window is adorned with paper-cut
art made by Tibetan children, like a pinnacle of this space. It is
where I find peace, much like reaching the Jerusalem of my heart
after walking a pilgrimage path. Beyond this destination, the path
stretches on, carrying the promise of more peace and beauty yet to
come.
